Hurt on a Construction Site in the RGV? What to Do Next

Construction keeps the Rio Grande Valley growing, from new homes in Edinburg to commercial projects along Expressway 83. But job sites come with real risks: falls from scaffolding, heavy equipment, falling materials, and electrical hazards. If you were hurt at work, the steps you take early on can make a difference.
First Steps After a Job Site Injury
Get medical care right away. Even if the pain seems minor, a doctor can document your injuries and catch problems that show up later.
Report the injury to your supervisor. Do it in writing if you can, and keep a copy.
Write down what happened. Note the date, time, location, equipment involved, and the names of coworkers who saw it.
Take photos. Capture the area, any damaged equipment or missing safety gear, and your injuries.
Be careful with recorded statements. You can talk to a lawyer before giving a statement to an insurance company.
Why Construction Injuries Can Be Complicated
Construction sites often involve several companies at once: a general contractor, subcontractors, equipment suppliers, and property owners. In Texas, some employers also choose not to carry workers' compensation coverage. Who was involved and what coverage is in place can affect the options available to you.
